Aircraft Specific Initial Transition Training
Initial transition training is designed to introduce you to a new aircraft type, provide you with foundational knowledge about the aircraft, aircraft and avionics systems, normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures. Advancement training is designed to move you upward within a make/model series with strong similarities in systems, as well as handling. Aircraft initial is introducing you to the whole, while advancement is introducing you to the differences.Below are basic prerequisites for the two primary types of courses. All training is individually tailored, recognizing that we each learn in our own ways and often at different paces.
Training materials and electronic versions of all available pilot guides and manuals are included and will be provided in advance of the training. The training material, which includes an electronic (or paper) copy of the aircraft POH, contains a “workbook” with a series of questions to be answered prior to starting training. This pre-work is fundamental to successfully completing the training within the timeframes shown.
Courses are designed to bring an individual with the prerequisite level of experience, from introduction to proficient in between 3 and 5 days. The more complex the aircraft, the longer the initial training process will take. Those with less experience may take more time to successfully complete the course. Those with significantly more experience, particularly those with significant EFIS/TAA experience may find that an advancement course could fill their individual needs and enable them to achieve proficiency in less time.
Initial aircraft transition training consists of a combination of ground and flight training. Ground training focuses on the materials in the pre-work packages available for each aircraft to ensure a solid understanding of your aircraft, its systems as well as the normal, abnormal and emergency procedures. Dual flight instruction, which is conducted during cross country flights, will enable you to log 10 to 15 hours of dual time in your aircraft (3 day courses will entail approximately 10 hours while 4 and 5 day courses will involve approximately 15 hours of flight training).
