Avidyne/Garmin/S-Tec 55X Cockpit

AvidyneThe most prevalent version of Avidyne certified systems is a combination of Avidyne PFD/MFD, dual Garmin GNS430 (or 430W) Com/Nav/GPS, Garmin 327 Transponder, Garmin 340 Audio Panel and an S-Tec 55X autopilot.  This fully integrated system incorporating GPS steering, altitude and vertical speed pre-selection, flight director, scalable moving maps, fully IFR certified and capable of handling a range of additional features including JeppView electronic charts, XM satellite weather services, Stormscope lightning detection, terrain awareness and warning, onboard radar and satellite music. This very capable system is found in Cirrus SR20/SR22’s, Columbia 350s, and a variety of Piper models including the Meridian, Mirage, Matrix and Saratoga.

Basic cockpit management training focuses on the essential components of this integrated system including the PFD, the ADAHRS system, the operation and interface with the Flight Director and S-Tec 55X autopilot as well as with the GNS430 (WAAS-where appropriate).

Multi Function Display MFD training is initially focused on basic functions and incorporates checklist protocols, navigating between pages, bezel keys and their functions, system set-ups, database updating and so forth.

Beyond normal procedures, training covers abnormal and emergency procedures, what to do when things don’t work properly.
Additional training designed to encompass any additional systems your airplane contains is available as desired.  Many of these systems are mostly automatic providing information via the MFD with little in-flight activity needed other than knowing how to get to it.  Other components take a bit more effort creating the potential need for pilot training to get full utilization out of it.

All of these components require practice, repeated use and, on occasion, some follow-up refresher training.  These gadgets provide us with a wealth of information and, as they become second nature, they become true safety enhancing systems.  Wright Aviation has the knowledge and experience to help you build a solid foundation and accelerate your learning.  We cover the critical areas and provide you with ongoing support as you gain experience managing your technically advance aircraft cockpit.
